This imposing castle is nestled in the green countryside of Alta Tuscia, between Lazio, Umbria and Tuscany. Recently restored, it represents one of the best-preserved medieval fortifications in Italy, with outstanding historical and architectural importance. Its location offers breathtaking panoramic views of the surrounding countryside.
With an internal square footage of 5,000 square meters distributed on 5 levels and 1,000 square meters of well-maintained private garden, the property boasts 35 rooms, 15 bathrooms (some with Jacuzzi) and a garage, offering a unique opportunity to experience history in an exclusive setting.
The history of the castle has its roots in the Middle Ages, when it was erected as a turreted fortification and later became a stronghold of the Monaldeschi della Cervara family. Over the centuries, the castle underwent several transformations. In the 16th century, under Sforza Monaldeschi, it was transformed into a Renaissance residence. However, it was in the 19th century that the castle reached its current configuration, when it was purchased by Count Edward Cahen d’Anvers. To him we owe the beginning of major renovation and expansion works, commissioned from architect Giuseppe Partini and French gardeners Henri and Achille Duchêne, who also took care of the garden that still embellishes its charm today.
Nineteenth-century transformations reworked the medieval architecture, enriching it with new elements and refined interior decoration, which today is celebrated for its high artistic and craftsmanship value. The Castle of Torre Alfina, thanks to the combination of history, art and nature, is a unique jewel in the panorama of Italian historical residences.
Torre Alfina is a small medieval village, a hamlet of Acquapendente in the province of Viterbo, which stands on the northern edge of the Alfina plateau.
