Vicchio is a town in the Tuscan countryside of Mugello with ancient Etruscan origins.
Its history features the importance of the area in which it is located, Mugello, for which since the 13th century the Florentine Republic expressed its interest by creating new urban centers closely linked to the city by administrative and economic ties, including Vicchio which remained extremely loyal to the Republic even when under siege by Spanish troops.
This town is best known for having given birthdays to Giotto, who often brought back its colors, landscapes and atmosphere in his works. Even his ancient home is still present and maintained by the inhabitants making it, thus, a destination for tourists from all over the world.
In addition to Giotto’s house, worthy of a visit to Vicchio are the church of Sant’Andrea Barbiana, Cimabue’s bridge and the Museum of Sacred Art.
